Luka Modrić reminisced about his football beginnings with a photo he shared on social media. On his Instagram Story, he posted on August 17, 2026, a joint photo with former Croatian international and striker Tomo Šokota, taken during the time when both wore the Dinamo jersey.
The photo shows Modrić in Dinamo training gear talking to Šokota as they walk down a pitch covered in large stones. He briefly added "memories" and "Šoki" to the post. The photo was taken by Boris Kovačev.
Modrić made his first serious senior steps at Dinamo, after coming through the youth system of the Zagreb club and gaining experience on loans at Zrinjski and Inter from Zaprešić. He briefly found himself in the same team as Šokota after the latter's return to the club in March 2007. During the 2007/08 season, Modrić was one of Dinamo's key players, and Šokota was also part of the squad that season.
While Modrić stirs up nostalgia, his former club faces important European matches. The first leg of the UEFA Champions League playoff against Norwegian side Viking will be played at Maksimir on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 9 PM. Tickets are still available only for the North Stand upper tier, priced at 12 euros for members and 17 euros for other fans, GNK Dinamo announced on Twitter.
The return leg is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 9 PM in Stavanger, Norway, at the Viking Stadion. Away fans will be seated in Sector F, with tickets sold at 249 Norwegian kroner (about 22 euros). The club emphasized that tickets must not be purchased under the names of individuals who are not traveling to the match, as strict identity checks will be conducted at the entrance.
"We'll go everywhere with Dinamo! ✈️🚌🚄" and "Tomorrow, all as one, from the pitch to the stands! 🏟️🙌" the club said on social media, urging fans to fill the stadium.
On the same day, Dinamo also celebrated the 40th birthday of the fan group BBB. On this occasion, former footballer Zvone Boban sent an emotional message on the club's Twitter: "To you, without whom nothing is the same - for 40 years it hasn't been the same! Happy Birthday Purgeri! Happy Birthday BBB group! Dinamo Zagreb above all, Dinamo Zagreb above everyone!"
