Summary
  • The Zadar Institute of Public Health confirmed that the sea at Jadran Beach is safe for swimming.
  • The analysis was conducted after a video of turbid water alarmed the public.
  • Samples taken at three points on August 9 showed satisfactory microbiological values.

After a concerning video of turbid water flowing into the sea at Zadar's Jadran Beach circulated on social media and portals last weekend, the Zadar Institute of Public Health conducted an extraordinary sea quality test. The final results, published on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, showed that the sea is safe and suitable for swimming.

Rapid On-Site Response

Institute Director Benito Pucar noticed the video on Sunday, August 9, around 1:00 PM and immediately reacted. He dispatched an employee who lives near the beach to the site. Although by around 1:30 PM the employee had determined that the discharge shown in the video was no longer visible, Pucar ordered sea sampling to eliminate any doubt.

Samples were taken the same day, between 2:05 and 2:15 PM, at three different points: the central part of the beach, and locations south and north of it. Key microbiological indicators were analyzed, namely the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria and intestinal enterococci.

What the Numbers Showed

The results showed the following values: at the central sampling point, 270 units of Escherichia coli and 78 of intestinal enterococci were recorded. The southern point yielded lower values of 52 and 34, while the northern point measured the lowest levels, 24 for E. coli and 20 for enterococci.

All obtained results meet the conditions prescribed by the Regulation on Sea Water Quality for Bathing, and the overall sea condition rating is "satisfactory."

"This means that swimming in the sea at Jadran Beach is freely allowed," said the Zadar Institute of Public Health.

Jadran Beach, located near the Marex café bar, has thus officially received the green light for all bathers. The swift intervention and detailed analysis have dispelled the doubts raised by the controversial video, confirming that the sea remains safe for enjoyment during the hot summer days.
