Summary
  • On August 3, 2026, Most requested the revocation of the building permit for the Dazlina wind farm in Šibenik.
  • The permit was issued on July 23, the same day the public consultation on the spatial plan closed.
  • The local community receives only one lipa per kilowatt from the project, and investors recoup their investment within five years.
  • Most is demanding stricter rules on turbine distance from settlements and a new environmental impact study due to the Natura 2000 protected area.

On Monday, August 3, 2026, Most party president Nikola Grmoja and party presidency member Mihovil Klarić called for the revocation of the building permit for the Dazlina wind farm. At a press conference in Šibenik, they argued that the permit has numerous deficiencies and was issued on the day the public consultation closed, raising questions about its legitimacy.

Coincidence or a Public Charade?

Klarić reminded that about two months ago, Most had already spoken at the same location about the potential impact of the wind farm on local residents. In the meantime, the draft of the Šibenik-Knin County Spatial Plan was published, which envisions the construction of such a facility in the Dazlina area.

"Citizens submitted their proposals and objections, and the public consultation was closed on July 23. However, on that very same day, a building permit for the Dazlina wind farm was issued. We can rightly ask whether that public consultation was just a show for the public," Klarić stated. He added that a 14-page lawsuit has already been drafted and that the party is seeking the permit's revocation.

Land as the Most Valuable Resource

Nikola Grmoja emphasized that Croatia's land is one of the nation's greatest assets. "From this example, we see how some people treat that land. I would question whether HDZ donors are behind this project, because we do not want to allow those who only look after their private or party interests to trade Croatian land in this manner," Grmoja said.

He particularly criticized the economic benefit to local residents. "For every kilowatt of electricity produced, the local community gets one lipa. Is that worth this kind of trading of our most valuable resource?" he asked.

Foreign Investors and Quick Returns

Grmoja also warned about the broader context of renewable energy investments. "Wind farm investors recoup their initial investment within five years, and all of us pay a renewable energy fee through our bills. I would have no objection if we, as a community, were setting aside something that benefits everyone, but wind turbines are a foreign product, the investors are mostly foreigners, and most of the money goes abroad," he asserted.

German Model for Distances and Nature Protection

Most is also seeking changes to the rules regarding the distance of wind turbines from populated areas. Under the current spatial plan, the minimum distance is 800 meters, but Klarić points out that this rule was established when turbines were significantly shorter. "We are asking that, following Germany's example, the distance from settlements be ten times the height of the turbine. If a turbine is 200 meters tall, the minimum distance from a populated area must be two kilometers," Grmoja and Klarić emphasized.

Additional concern arises from the fact that the planned construction area lies within the Natura 2000 ecological network, a special protection zone for birds such as the European roller, the pygmy cormorant, and the eastern imperial eagle. Most therefore demands a new, independent environmental impact study, as the existing one was conducted in 2022. At that time, seven wind farms were operating in the county, and two more have since been commissioned.

FAQ
Why is Most seeking the revocation of the building permit for the Dazlina wind farm? +
Most claims that the permit has numerous deficiencies and was issued on the same day the public consultation closed, raising questions about its transparency.
What is the current distance of wind turbines from settlements under existing regulations? +
Under the current spatial plan, the minimum distance is 800 meters, but Most is seeking to introduce a rule, following Germany's example, where the distance is ten times the height of the turbine.
What is the benefit to the local community from the project? +
According to Nikola Grmoja, the local community receives only one lipa per kilowatt of produced electricity.
Why is a new environmental impact study being sought? +
The existing study was conducted in 2022 when seven wind farms were operating, and two more have since been commissioned. The area is also within the Natura 2000 ecological network.
