Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has launched a search for qualified workers to build his ambitious AI data centers. In a post on platform X on August 1, 2026, he announced that SpaceX is looking for "exceptional engineering and trades talent to build and operate the most powerful AI supercomputer clusters on Earth and beyond."
What makes this recruitment drive particularly intriguing is Musk's well-known selection method. Interested candidates, along with their resume, must send "3 bullet points proving exceptional ability" to [email protected]. This three-bullet-point requirement has become a hallmark of his hiring style, previously applied to highly skilled "white-collar" workers in his companies.
The reference to building "beyond Earth" is no accident. It reflects Musk's vision of placing data centers in space as a potential solution to the growing energy demands of artificial intelligence. This move comes at a time when SpaceX is playing an increasingly central role in his AI ambitions.
Earlier this year, SpaceX acquired Musk's AI startup, xAI, which was subsequently renamed SpaceXAI. That company now operates Colossus, a massive AI supercomputer campus built in Memphis, Tennessee, used for training Grok AI models.
On the same day Business Insider published an article about the hiring, Musk also commented on the future of programming on his X profile. Commenting on a post by user "jimmah," who wrote that he no longer looks at source code because he trusts AI, just as half a century ago he stopped looking at assembly code because he trusted the compiler, Musk replied: "Exactly. Source code is on the verge of becoming like assembly. The next step is to completely eliminate 'source code' and directly generate efficient binary code using AI."
