Summary
  • Toy poodle Bombon went missing on Friday evening in Gdinj on Hvar after the apartment owner entered without the family's knowledge.
  • The search is being led by Split's Bestie Foundation, and the dog was seen in the yard but ran away again in fear.
  • Residents and tourists are asked to check yards and abandoned buildings and report any information to 098 317 339.

Since Friday evening, an extensive search has been underway in the area of Gdinj on the island of Hvar for a small toy poodle named Bombon. The Split-based association Bestie, which reported her disappearance, has called on island residents, visitors, and anyone in the area to join the search.

Bombon's owners are Milan and Marina, who have long been active as volunteers at the aforementioned foundation, along with their daughter Maša. They arrived on Hvar on Friday and stayed in an apartment in Gdinj, but their vacation quickly turned into a nightmare.

Went Missing While Family Was at Dinner

According to information from the Bestie Foundation, the family left the dog in the apartment and went to dinner in another town. After they left, the accommodation owner entered the apartment without their knowledge or permission, after which Bombon ran out and escaped.

The dog returned to the yard after some time, but they were unable to catch her because she was frightened, and she disappeared again. The family was not immediately notified of what had happened. Only a few hours later, around 11 p.m., they received a message that Bombon was gone, and since then, the search has been continuous.

Residents Asked to Check Yards and Buildings

Bombon was reportedly seen in the Gdinj area on Friday evening, but on Saturday, August 8, there were no new concrete leads that would lead to her discovery. The search is further complicated by the challenging terrain, full of forest, maquis, numerous paths, and abandoned buildings where a small and frightened dog can easily hide.

Therefore, Bestie is asking residents and tourists in Gdinj, Bogomolje, Zastražišće, and surrounding areas to be vigilant and, if possible, to search their yards, garages, konobas, sheds, and abandoned buildings. If anyone spots Bombon, they urge people not to run after her or try to chase her, but to report the exact location, time, and direction she was moving as soon as possible.

"There will be time to discuss the circumstances of her disappearance. Right now, the most important thing is to find Bombon and return her safely to her family," the Bestie Foundation said.

Bombon has a microchip and all necessary vaccinations are up to date. Any information about the dog can be provided to the Bestie Foundation via social media or directly to the owners at 098 317 339.
