After their owner passed away, five to six house cats found themselves on the streets of Zagreb's Jarun neighborhood without any protection. Some of them are sick and in serious condition. The Index.hr newsroom was informed about this by reader Dijana, who is currently bringing them food.
The animals are hiding under parked cars because they are not used to living outdoors.
"These are house cats; they don't know how to cope. There's a construction site across the street, so they have nowhere to run,"Dijana explained. She also warned that they are exposed to traffic and will perish without shelter.
"We're feeding them now, but they need care and a home they've lost,"she said.
The condition of three visibly ill cats is particularly concerning. There is a suspicion of calicivirus, making a veterinary examination essential.
"One is already on its last legs; it has stopped eating and drinking,"Dijana recounted.
To help the cats, it is necessary to organize treatment, secure carriers for vet visits, and, most importantly, find a safe place or a new home. Index.hr did not publish the exact address due to an agreement with a resident and to protect the privacy of other tenants.
