Koprivnica's Bašča is taking on a Renaissance look, but preparations for this year's festival are not without challenges. Workers setting up the scenery are facing temperatures exceeding 37 degrees Celsius, and as they told us, the sun is their biggest problem.
The team on the ground has been in action for three days now. To avoid the worst of the heat, their workday starts unusually early. "We get up at half past five in the morning and work until one because of this sun," one worker told ePodravina. He added that there is no shortage of work, but everything is progressing. "It's going slowly," he commented briefly.
The workers also revealed that they are provided with a daily meal. "Komunalac gave us a meal a day to eat," the same worker said. All the work should be completed by August 20, 2026, when the festival begins and runs until August 23. Part of the festival program will also take place in the very center of Koprivnica this year.
Although there is still much work ahead, the ramparts of Bašča are already showing signs of a major event in the making. If everything goes according to plan, the city center will once again briefly come alive in the spirit of the Renaissance in two weeks.
