The traditional summer blood donation drive on Vir will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 3 to 6 PM in the Vir Municipal Council Chamber. All members and friends of the Vir Voluntary Blood Donors Association are invited by the organizers to turn out in large numbers, given the typical seasonal demands of the Transfusion Medicine Department at Zadar General Hospital.
As reported by eZadar, there is currently an increased need for blood donors of groups 0+ and 0- across Croatia, as summer supplies have dwindled. This drive comes at a time when blood reserves are traditionally at lower levels.
Around Eighty Donors Expected
Goran Vicković, president of the Vir Voluntary Blood Donors Association, expressed hope that the turnout will match that of the past two years. "We hope and expect the turnout to be on par with the last two years, when we had around eighty registered donors. In summer, the need is greater due to somewhat lower blood reserves, making the August drive one of the more important blood donation events," Vicković told eZadar.
Who Organizes the Drive
The August blood donation drive is jointly organized by the Vir Voluntary Blood Donors Association, the Zadar City Red Cross Society, and the Transfusion Department of Zadar General Hospital. The event is supported by the destination management company Vir turizam, with sponsorship from the Municipality of Vir.
