Investors Dario Bošnjak and SofaScore co-owner Zlatko Hrkać have taken over the neglected building, which will house office spaces, a bar, and a restaurant. Meanwhile, a dramatic search for Portuguese nationals is underway in the Velebit Channel.
The building on Zagreb's Ljubljanska Street, which for decades symbolized neglect and unfinished construction, is finally getting a new face. At that location, Caprico Tower is now rising, a project launched last year by investors Dario Bošnjak and Zlatko Hrkać, co-owner of SofaScore.
The building changed investors over the years, and the never-completed skeleton was replaced by another that also stood unfinished for years. Now, according to photos by Davor Puklavac from the PIXSELL agency, work is clearly visible at the construction site, and the future building will include office and commercial spaces, a bar, and a restaurant.
According to available information, completion is expected during 2027. It will be a modern office complex with offices, shops, a gym, and health facilities. The project was designed by the 3LHD studio, and the building is expected to be fully clad in glass and steel. Inside, there will be office spaces spanning more than 7,500 m², and beneath the building, an underground garage with over 300 parking spaces and storage units in the basement.
Next to the main building, there will be a commercial section covering more than 6,500 m², intended for shops and catering. Plans also include a fitness center and a health polyclinic. The building is expected to achieve DGNB Gold certification with maximum A+ energy efficiency and compliance with nZEB (nearly zero-energy building) standards. Four high-speed elevators and two staircases will handle internal communication, and corridors and stairwells will be lit by LED lighting with presence detection. Centralized heating and cooling, a modern fire protection system with video surveillance, and suspended ceilings and raised floors for installations are all planned.
The building's history dates back to 1990, when Tovarna avtomobilov CIMOS began construction of an office building. Construction soon halted, and the site was left to overgrow until 2007, when Hypo Alpe Adria Consultants took over. That attempt also failed. The concrete skeleton was then taken over by Društvo Vrbani centar, which demolished part of the building in 2011, but work was quickly stopped. The land and building were later acquired by B2 Kapital.
While Zagreb gets a new business address, a major search and rescue operation is underway at sea. The National Center for Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination in Rijeka reported that a coordinated search was launched overnight for four young Portuguese nationals in the Velebit Channel.
The young Portuguese boarded a children's boat, and a stormy bora wind blew them nearly 10 kilometers offshore. Waves reached up to 3 meters in height. So far, two of the four missing have been found, and the search for the others continues intensively.
According to available information, a woman and a man were found exhausted and hypothermic. The Portuguese woman is in stable condition at a hospital in Rijeka. Unfortunately, the body of one Portuguese man was also found, while the search for the other man continues.
"We are doing our best," say the services involved in the search, without revealing further details about the operation.
The search for the remaining Portuguese national continues under difficult conditions, with all services remaining on the ground until the operation is concluded.
