A Zagreb woman who had maintained a green area in Žitnjak for years contacted the Zagreb.info editorial team with outrage because the area, at V. Kozari put 11d, had become an illegal dump. After her public plea, the City of Zagreb responded: the municipal inspection issued a cleanup order, and the Čistoća department has already cleared the site.
For Years We Mowed and Cleaned Ourselves, Now They Dump Their Waste
The reader recounted how she and her husband had single-handedly cared for the area for years, using their own lawnmowers and brush cutters to keep the meadow looking tidy. The situation changed after they moved to Germany. The area became overgrown and, as she claims, a place where certain neighbors from their street and the wider neighborhood dump various types of waste.
"In Žitnjak, at V. Kozari put 11d, illegal waste dumping is taking place. It involves various types of waste, from tiles and rubble to other construction and municipal waste," the reader wrote to Zagreb.info. She added that they had contacted the City of Zagreb and Zagreb Holding, specifically Čistoća, multiple times, but received no response and saw no visible action taken.
After the Article Was Published, a Swift Response Followed
After Zagreb.info asked the City whether municipal inspectors would go to the site, a solution was found. The City stated that the Municipal Inspection conducted an inspection at the location and issued an order to Zagreb Holding Ltd., Čistoća branch to clean up the illegally dumped waste.
The Department for the Remediation of Illegal Dump Sites of the Čistoća branch has remediated the site, and horticultural landscaping will be requested from the Zrinjevac branch. This has, at least for now, resolved the problem that had been troubling residents of that part of Žitnjak for months.
