Drivers on Croatian motorways can expect significant slowdowns and extraordinary situations today. In its report from Monday, August 17, 2026, the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) highlights a traffic accident on the A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići motorway, where at the 196th kilometer between the Gospić and Gornja Ploča interchanges, in the direction of Dubrovnik, traffic is moving at a speed limit of 80 km/h.

Accident on A1 and Increased Traffic Toward the Coast

On the A1 Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići, there is increased traffic density between Zagreb and Bosiljevo. The traffic accident at the 196th kilometer between the Gospić and Gornja Ploča interchanges, in the direction of Dubrovnik, requires driving at a speed limit of 80 km/h. HAK warns drivers to adjust their speed and driving style to the current road conditions and to maintain a safe following distance between vehicles.

Traffic Jams on A2 and A4

On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway, before the Trakošćan toll plaza in the direction of Zagreb, a queue about 1 kilometer long has formed. Additionally, at the entrance to Zagreb, at the Zagreb zapad interchange, the queue has reached about 5 kilometers. On the A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway, in the direction of Zagreb, between the Popovec exit and Zagreb istok, near the construction site at kilometer 91+800, a two-kilometer-long queue has been observed.

Roadworks and Lane Narrowings on A2 and A3

On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj, traffic is restricted to the driving lane on two sections: from 17+500 to 13+750 km in the direction of Macelj (Krapina, Đurmanec section) and from 6+700 to 8+200 km in the direction of Zagreb (Trakošćan, Đurmanec section).

On the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway, until September 1, 2026, drainage rehabilitation is underway on the section between the Popovača and Kutina interchanges in the direction of Lipovac (from 90+700 to 93+800 km). Traffic there is moving through two narrowed lanes, and due to heavy traffic, delays and queues may occur, especially on Fridays.

Roadworks between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges (from 12 km + 480 to 15 km + 300) will last until October 3, 2026. The carriageway in the direction of Lipovac is closed, and vehicles are moving in both directions using the carriageway in the direction of Bregana, with two narrowed lanes in each direction. Congestion and queues can be expected especially in the morning and afternoon hours, as well as throughout the day on weekends.

Zagreb Bypass and Tomorrow's Forecast

On the Zagreb bypass (A3), there is increased traffic density between the Zagreb zapad and Lučko interchanges in the direction of Lipovac, and between the Zagreb istok and Kosnica interchanges in the direction of Bregana. HAK notes that tomorrow, roads across the country will be wet and slippery, and in some places, flooding of the roadway is possible. Due to locally heavy rain, there is an increased risk of landslides on roads in hilly areas.

Increased traffic is also expected on routes connecting the coast with the interior, and occasional delays and queues will occur in areas of roadworks, tunnels, interchanges, rest areas, and toll plazas, as well as on approaches to tourist destinations. At certain border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, increased traffic of passenger and freight vehicles is expected.
