A traffic accident occurred on the A7 motorway near Rijeka, while delays are possible on the A3 due to roadworks. HAK has published a comprehensive report on road conditions, including a series of restrictions, bans, and exceptional transports.
Drivers across Croatia face numerous challenges on the roads on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. According to this morning's report from the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK), a traffic accident occurred on the A7 motorway at km 29+700 between the Orehovica and Rijeka istok interchanges in the direction of Križišća. Meanwhile, on the A3 motorway, traffic jams and slow-moving queues are possible due to long-term roadworks and increased traffic density.
HAK urges drivers to adjust their speed and driving style to road conditions and maintain a safe following distance. On state road DC1 near Drežnik Grad, due to spilled cargo, traffic is moving at a speed limit of 30 km/h. In addition to the mentioned incidents, a series of restrictions are in effect, from roadworks on key routes to summer bans for heavy goods vehicles.
The situation on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway is particularly challenging. Until September 1, drainage rehabilitation is underway on the section between the Popovača and Kutina interchanges in the direction of Lipovac, where traffic is moving in two narrowed lanes. With increased traffic density, especially on Fridays, the formation of traffic jams and queues is possible.
Until October 3, between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges, traffic is moving in both directions on the carriageway toward Bregana, with two narrowed lanes in each direction. HAK also warns of possible delays and queues here, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours and on weekends. Additionally, near the Zagreb zapad (Jankomir) interchange, traffic is moving in a single lane until December 31, and the Kraljeva Velika north and south rest areas are closed until August 31. Also, from August 3 to September 2, in the area of the Županja interchange, traffic will be briefly stopped periodically due to the passage of exceptional transport.
Roadworks are also affecting the A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway. On the Zagreb istok-Popovec section, between km 95 and km 91+800, in the direction of Goričan, traffic is moving in both directions. On the carriageway toward Goričan, traffic is reduced to one lane with a speed limit of 80 km/h. Roadworks on this section last until August 30.
In addition to the aforementioned traffic accident on the A7, special traffic regulations are in effect on this motorway. Due to reconstruction works on the intersection of state roads DC8 and DC66 (Kuk) at the Matulji, Opatija interchange, traffic in both directions is moving on a narrowed carriageway until June 11, 2027.
On the Istrian Y (A8/A9), construction of the full motorway profile is underway, so traffic is moving in both directions on narrowed carriageways and auxiliary lanes. In the work zone on the Učka tunnel, Matulji interchange section, special regulations are in effect with possible temporary traffic interruptions. Due to works on duplicating the Limska Draga viaduct, the passage of exceptional transports wider than 3.00 meters is restricted in both directions.
Across the country, numerous exceptional transports are causing brief traffic stops. On the A1 motorway, until August 12, from 01:00 to 05:00, traffic will be temporarily stopped in the area of the Karlovac and Zagreb zapad interchanges, with a maximum stop duration of 15 minutes. From August 11 to September 5, between 22:00 and 05:00, exceptional transport will move from the Karamatići checkpoint to the Bisko interchange.
On the A6 motorway, until August 12, from 01:00 to 04:00, traffic will be periodically stopped from the Rijeka checkpoint to the Kikovica interchange. On the A7 motorway, from August 11 to 12, from 22:00 to 04:00, transport will move from the Rupa interchange to the Učka (Matulji) interchange. Also, from August 11 to 13, from 00:01 to 05:00, an exceptional transport measuring 98 meters in length will travel from the Bregana border crossing (A3) to the Goričan border crossing (A4).
On the Adriatic Highway (DC8), due to strong winds, there is a ban on traffic for double-decker buses, motorcycles, and camper trailers on the section between Novi Vinodolski and Sveta Marija Magdalena. Additionally, due to a landslide in Kaštel Kambelovac, traffic is moving under temporary regulation.
The summer ban on traffic for heavy goods vehicles with a maximum permissible mass exceeding 7.5 tons on certain state roads in Istria and the coastal area lasts until September 15. The ban is in effect on Saturdays from 04:00 to 14:00 and on Sundays from 12:00 to 23:00.
Due to roadworks or damage, long-term bans and closures of sections are in effect across the country. On DC2 near Vukovar, the traffic ban lasts until December 17, and on DC14 between Poznanovac and Dubovec until January 31, 2027. Until December 31, traffic is banned for vehicles over 7.5 tons on the Erdut II bridge (DC213) and in the town of Pribanjci (DC204), while on DC42 in Hreljin Ogulinski, there is a ban for vehicles heavier than 15 tons due to damage to the bridge over the Dobra River. On DC24, on the Rakovec-Varaždinske Toplice section, there is a ban on traffic for vehicles over 7.5 tons until December 31. The bridge in Gunja (DC214) is closed to heavy goods vehicles and buses until further notice, and DC546 in Petričko Selo and the Majstorska cesta (DC547) Sveti Rok-Jasenice are closed to all traffic until further notice.
Some sections are completely closed, such as DC29 Kašina-Laz Bistrički until August 12, DC28 Bjelovar-Letičani until August 25, DC34 Donji Miholjac-Sveti Đurađ until September 1, DC38 in Požega until December 15, and DC38 Blacko-Vesela until September 9. For all closed sections, HAK has published detailed detour routes for passenger and heavy goods vehicles.
