Due to a traffic accident on the Adriatic Highway (DC8) in the town of Plano, in the direction of Trogir, traffic has been halted, the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) reported. A detour is possible via state road DC409, and drivers are advised to exercise extra caution and patience due to potential delays.
Highway restrictions due to animals and roadworks
On the A1 highway near the Ličko Lešće rest area, a roe deer was spotted on the road, so traffic on that section is currently limited to 60 km/h. HAK urges drivers to reduce speed and follow the signage.
On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj highway, traffic on certain sections is limited to the driving lane only. In the direction of Macelj, this applies to the Krapina, Đurmanec section (from km 17+500 to 13+750), and in the direction of Zagreb, to the Trakošćan, Đurmanec section (from km 6+700 to 8+200).
On the A3 Bregana-Lipovac highway, there are two work zones in effect. Until September 1, 2026, drainage rehabilitation is underway on the section between the Popovača and Kutina interchanges in the direction of Lipovac (from km 90+700 to 93+800), where traffic runs in two narrowed lanes. Until October 3, 2026, works are ongoing between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges (from km 12+480 to 15+300), where the carriageway in the direction of Lipovac is closed, and traffic is diverted to the opposite carriageway in the direction of Bregana, also in two narrowed lanes in both directions.
Wet roads and slow traffic across the country
According to HAK's traffic forecast for August 17, 2026, roads across Croatia will be wet and slippery, with possible localized flooding. Due to locally heavy rainfall, there is an increased risk of landslides on mountain roads.
During the morning and afternoon hours, slow traffic is expected on city roads and bypasses, especially on the Zagreb (A3) and Rijeka bypasses, on the A2 highway near the Zagreb zapad interchange in the direction of Zagreb, and on the A4 highway between the Popovec and Zagreb istok interchanges.
On roads connecting the coast with the interior, higher traffic volumes are also expected, and in areas where roadworks are underway, in tunnels, at interchanges, rest areas, toll stations, and upon arrival at tourist destinations, occasional slowdowns and longer queues may occur. At certain border crossings towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, increased traffic of both passenger and freight vehicles is expected.
