A traffic accident in the Škurinje I tunnel on the A7 motorway towards Rupa caused traffic jams this morning, with traffic being diverted into a single lane and a speed limit of 40 km/h in force. The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) reported on Monday, August 17, 2026, that this is an extraordinary traffic event on the Rupa-Rijeka-Šmrika section.
Meanwhile, HAK notes increased traffic density on the A1 motorway between Zagreb and Bosiljevo towards the coast, as well as a higher influx of vehicles at the Lučko toll plaza in the same direction. On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway, a larger number of vehicles has been recorded at the Trakošćan toll plaza heading towards Zagreb.
Roadworks and Traffic Regulations on A2, A3, and A4
On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj motorway, traffic is restricted to the driving lane on two sections: from km 17+500 to km 13+750 towards Macelj, on the Krapina-Đurmanec section, and from km 6+700 to km 8+200 towards Zagreb, on the Trakošćan-Đurmanec section.
On the A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway, the Kraljeva Velika north and south rest areas are closed in both directions until August 31 due to roadworks. Until December 31, due to efforts to reduce congestion at the approach to the Zagreb zapad (Jankomir) interchange, traffic is running in a single lane with temporary signage.
Until September 1, on the section from the Popovača interchange to the Kutina interchange towards Lipovac (from km 90+700 to km 93+800), drainage works are underway, and vehicles are moving through two narrowed lanes. HAK warns that with increased traffic density, delays and queues are possible, especially on Fridays.
Until October 3, between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges (from km 12+480 to km 15+300), the carriageway towards Lipovac is closed due to roadworks. Traffic is being diverted to two-way operation on the carriageway towards Bregana, with two narrowed lanes in each direction, and congestion is likely, particularly in the morning, afternoon, and throughout the day on weekends.
On the A4 Goričan-Zagreb motorway, until August 30, roadworks are ongoing on the Zagreb istok-Popovec section, between km 95 and km 91+800. Towards Goričan, traffic is two-way, and on that carriageway, vehicles are moving in a single lane with a speed limit of 80 km/h.
Exceptional Transport and Weather Conditions
Until September 5, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, exceptional transport is taking place on the route from the Karamatići checkpoint to the Bisko interchange on the A1 motorway. From August 3 to September 2, during four overnight periods (from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM), traffic will be briefly halted in the zone of the Županja interchange to allow for the passage of exceptional transport.
HAK forecasts wet and slippery roads across the country today, with localized flooding possible. Due to locally heavy rainfall, there is an increased risk of landslides on roads in the highlands. In the morning and afternoon, traffic on city roads and bypasses will be slower, especially on the Zagreb (A3) and Rijeka bypasses, on the A2 motorway near the Zagreb zapad interchange towards Zagreb, and on the A4 between the Popovec and Zagreb istok interchanges.
Increased traffic is also expected on roads connecting the coast with the interior, with occasional congestion and queues in roadwork zones, tunnels, interchanges, rest areas, toll plazas, and approaches to tourist destinations. At certain border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, both passenger and freight traffic will be heavier. Due to adverse weather conditions, changes to ferry schedules and disruptions on some maritime routes are possible.
