Drivers on Croatian roads can expect significant delays and extraordinary situations today. In its report for Monday, August 17, 2026, the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) highlights a traffic accident in the Škurinje I tunnel on the A7 motorway, where traffic towards Rupa is reduced to a single lane with a speed limit of 40 km/h.
Accident on A7 and Increased Traffic Towards the Coast
On the A7 motorway (Rupa-Rijeka-Šmrika), a traffic accident occurred in the Škurinje I tunnel on the carriageway towards Rupa. As a result, traffic is moving in one lane, and drivers must adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/h. HAK warns that queues are possible on this section.
Meanwhile, on the A1 motorway (Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići), increased traffic density is recorded between Zagreb and Karlovac in the direction of the coast. There is also an increased influx of vehicles at the Lučko toll plaza towards the coast, further slowing the flow on one of the main routes to the Adriatic.
Roadworks on A2, A3, and A4: Key Restrictions
On the A2 motorway (Zagreb-Macelj), traffic is restricted to the driving lane on the Krapina-Đurmanec section, from km 17+500 to km 13+750 towards Macelj, and on the Trakošćan-Đurmanec section, from km 6+700 to km 8+200 towards Zagreb.
On the A3 motorway (Bregana-Lipovac), several restrictions are in effect. Until August 31, the Kraljeva Velika north and south rest areas are closed in both directions. Until December 31, traffic is reduced to one lane on the approach to the Zagreb zapad (Jankomir) interchange from the directions of Lipovac, Bregana, and Macelj due to traffic relief. Until September 1, drainage rehabilitation is underway on the Popovača-Kutina section towards Lipovac, from km 90+700 to km 93+800, where traffic runs on two narrowed lanes, with possible congestion especially on Fridays. Until October 3, roadworks are ongoing between the Sveta Nedelja and Zagreb zapad interchanges, from km 12+480 to km 15+300, where the carriageway towards Lipovac is closed, and two-way traffic is diverted onto the carriageway towards Bregana with two narrowed lanes in both directions.
Until August 30, on the A4 motorway (Goričan-Zagreb), on the section from the Zagreb istok interchange to Popovec, between km 95 and km 91+800, roadworks are being carried out. Towards Goričan, traffic is reduced to one lane, with a speed limit of 80 km/h; all junctions at the Zagreb istok and Sesvete interchanges operate normally.
Exceptional Transports and Night Stoppages
Until September 5, 2026, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, an exceptional transport will travel on the route from the Karamatići checkpoint (A1) to the Bisko interchange (A1). From August 3 to September 2, on the A3 motorway, during four night periods between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM, traffic will be briefly stopped in the area of the Županja interchange to allow the passage of an exceptional load.
Today's Forecast: Wet Roads and Rush-Hour Delays
According to HAK's traffic forecast for August 17, 2026, roads across the country will be wet and slippery, with localized flooding possible. Due to locally heavy rain, there is an increased risk of landslides on mountain roads.
In the morning and afternoon, slower driving is expected on urban roads and bypasses, especially on the Zagreb (A3) and Rijeka bypasses, on the A2 motorway near the Zagreb zapad interchange towards Zagreb, and on the A4 between Popovec and Zagreb istok. Heavier traffic is also expected on roads connecting the coast with the interior, and at some border crossings with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro, both passenger and freight traffic will be intensified.
