Trogir police have completed a criminal investigation and identified a 39-year-old German national suspected of repeatedly operating a drone in areas where flying is strictly prohibited. Among these locations, the zone in the immediate vicinity of Split Airport stands out, adding extra weight to the incident.
The search for the suspect was launched after police officers received information about the unauthorized use of an unmanned aircraft in the wider Trogir and Kaštel Štafilić area. According to the facts established so far, the 39-year-old repeatedly launched the drone in restricted zones over a short period of time.
Particularly concerning is the fact that some of the flights took place right next to Split Airport, where an unmanned aircraft can pose a real danger to air traffic safety. A drone appearing in the flight path of an airplane is not a harmless toy, but a potential hazard to passengers, crew, and those on the ground.
The police will file a criminal complaint against the German national with the competent state attorney's office on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of endangering life and property by a dangerous act or means.
