Four sailors were rescued overnight from Monday to Tuesday after their boat ran aground near Cape Oključić, on the northwestern side of Dugi Otok. A swift response by officers from the Zadar Harbour Master's Office prevented more serious consequences from this maritime accident, with two people sustaining minor physical injuries.

Report Received at 10:57 PM

The National Coordination Centre for Search and Rescue at Sea in Rijeka (MRCC Rijeka) received the report of the accident on August 10 at 10:57 PM. The incident was reported by a witness who was in the vicinity. Immediately upon receiving the report, the Zadar Harbour Master's Office was notified.

Evacuation and Transport to Veli Rat

Officers from the Zadar Harbour Master's Office quickly set sail from Veli Rat and headed to the scene. They found the four-member crew on the grounded boat and evacuated them onto their rescue vessel. The rescued sailors were then transported to Veli Rat, arriving on August 11 at 12:45 AM.

Minor Injuries and Return to Departure Point

Upon disembarking in Veli Rat, all four individuals were examined by a previously engaged medical professional. Two of them were found to have minor injuries, which were treated on the spot. After receiving assistance, the rescued sailors were transported back to their original departure point by the rescue boat from the Sali Harbour Master's Office branch, successfully concluding the rescue operation.

Boat Remains at Grounding Site

The grounded boat remained at the accident site and, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, will be removed at the owner's expense once the investigation is completed. The Ministry also reported that no marine or environmental pollution was found at the grounding site.
