A forest fire that broke out at 12:20 AM on Wednesday in Dubrovnik's Gorica settlement was contained by around 1:45 AM, the Dubrovnik Fire Department (JVP Dubrovački vatrogasci) confirmed. The intervention, which lasted one hour and 25 minutes, involved a total of 26 firefighters, and the fire front consumed approximately 6,000 square meters of forest and scrubland.
Upon receiving the report, members of the Dubrovnik Fire Department and the Zaton Volunteer Fire Department immediately responded. Due to the proximity of residential areas and the rapid spread of the fire, the firefighting vessel "Orlando" was also deployed to operate from the sea side. The swift response and coordination of land and maritime forces prevented further uncontrolled spread of the fire.
Firefighting efforts were significantly hampered by strong winds and inaccessible terrain. Nighttime conditions further reduced visibility and slowed the firefighters' movement through the wooded area, increasing the risk of re-ignition.
