Jan-Henrik Børslid, a journalist for Norwegian TV2, criticized Zagreb's stadium and then sunbathed shirtless on Ban Jelačić Square, earning a warning from two police officers.
Norwegian journalist Jan-Henrik Børslid, who produced a report on the Maksimir Stadium for TV2 ahead of the Champions League playoff between Dinamo and Viking, had an unusual encounter with the police in downtown Zagreb. After his segment on the state of Dinamo's home sparked strong reactions, Børslid decided to take off his shirt and sunbathe in the middle of Ban Jelačić Square during a walk.
Two police officers quickly approached him, and the entire incident was captured on camera and aired on Norwegian television. "I heard some guys saying, 'Excuse me, sir.' I opened my eyes and saw two police officers right in front of me. They told me it simply wasn't allowed. You can't take your shirt off in Zagreb and get a bit of vitamin D. That disappointed me," Børslid recounted to his colleagues.
In his report, Børslid sharply criticized Maksimir, the stadium that has been the home of football in Zagreb since May 1912. "Dinamo's home stadium is a dilapidated hole, but it has its charm. Come inside with us. This stadium is 115 years old and... Actually, I think these things are also 115 years old, maybe even older. There's literally a brick lying here waiting for... Everything is falling apart," said the Norwegian journalist.
His segment stirred up a lot of dust, both in Croatia and in the neighboring countries. Børslid himself noticed that he had become a topic in Croatian media. "After I did the tour of Dinamo's stadium, it spread all over Croatian media. It became a big story here. Something like: 'Norwegian attacks stadium.' So I've already become a topic here. I can't afford two more things like that; I have to get out of here before this airs," he added.
His colleague Jesper Mathisen jokingly linked the whole incident to the Maksimir report. "By the time you watch this footage, I can guarantee you Børslid has already left Zagreb. This will air just as he's boarding the plane and taking off," Mathisen joked.
