The Bosnian international is heading to England for medical checks, with the transfer to Newcastle worth €35 million.
Amar Dedić, formerly of Benfica, was met by a throng of journalists at the airport on Sunday, August 16, 2026. According to reports from N1 BiH and Klix.ba, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international is traveling to England, where he is set to undergo medical examinations and be unveiled at Newcastle United.
Journalists peppered Dedić with questions about the reasons for his departure, his readiness for the Premier League, and his relationship with his former club. However, he mostly walked past the assembled media in silence, avoiding lengthy comments until the transfer is officially confirmed. He answered only one question-about his message to Benfica fans.
"I love them," Dedić said, before continuing on his way without further comment.
Renowned football insider Fabrizio Romano has reported that the deal is done and that Dedić will become a player of the English club. This was also confirmed by Benfica coach Marco Silva, who explained the situation regarding the player.
"He is not on the list and did not take part in preparations for the match. The information I received from the board is that the deal is in its final stages. He was a player we did not want to lose, especially because of the good season he had last year and his youth," Silva said.
Dedić bids farewell to the Portuguese giants after 46 appearances, in which he scored one goal and registered four assists. The transfer to Newcastle has been agreed as a package worth €35 million, with a clause included that will see Benfica receive a percentage of any future sale.
The Bosnian defender now faces medical checks, after which an official unveiling at St. James' Park is expected. With this move, Dedić begins a new chapter in his career and gains the opportunity to prove himself in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.
