Split-Dalmatia County is packed with tourists this summer, and according to data from July 2026, family accommodation is generating the highest turnover. Although the start of the season was uncertain, hosts are thrilled with the results, and guests say that private villas and apartments offer exactly what they're looking for, space and privacy.

Germans Lead, Americans Discover the Charms of the Palace

The county hosts around 200,000 guests daily, with Germans being the most numerous. German tourist Sven told N1 that he rented a villa with his family, located 18 kilometers from Split's city center. "Because we have plenty of space, no neighbors, and we can be as loud as we want, especially with the kids," he explained his choice.

Stefan from Austria confirms different preferences: "It depends on the vacation, what kind of vacation it is; usually it's a mix of hotels and private accommodation, but this time we're on a boat for the first time. It's always different." American Joshua, on the other hand, highlights value for money and location: "This year we're in an apartment; it's great value for money and right next to Diocletian's Palace."

Last-Minute Bookings Saved Hosts

Split-based host Šime Pletković admits that expectations were modest at the start of the season. "Last-minute bookings saved us this year, and when you look at the situation worldwide, we should be more than satisfied," he said. It is precisely family accommodation that is seeing the highest turnover at the peak of the season.

Hotels See Growth, Camp in Stobreč Faces Challenges

The hotel sector also has reason to be pleased. Hotel operations manager Aldo Miletić notes that revenues and guest numbers have risen: "Overall, I'd say it's 10 percent better than last year when we look at all revenues and guest arrivals." At one hotel, July was five percent better than last year, and capacity is booked solid through October.

However, not all tourism segments are in the black. Although camps generally saw a two percent improvement in July, the camp in Stobreč recorded a five percent decline. Sanja Bošnjak, sales and marketing manager at the camp, is cautious in her forecasts: "We can't confirm growth in July. Bookings for August look very promising, but it's still too early to predict how the rest of the season will unfold."

Nationally, commercial accommodation in July saw a two percent increase in arrivals and a one percent increase in overnight stays compared to the same period last year.
