Summary
  • Dalija Orešković released a recording from Parliament and accused HDZ of ignoring warnings about hazardous waste in Lika from April 2025.
  • The MP claims that anti-corruption institutions, from the Conflict of Interest Commission to the DORH, are subordinated to HDZ.
  • PM Plenković announced waste remediation in Lika, following the Varaždin model, and visited Sinj ahead of the 311th Sinjska Alka.

MP Dalija Orešković posted a video on Facebook on Sunday showing a parliamentary debate from over a year ago, telling citizens that four minutes will make everything clear about HDZ. The recording is from the morning session held on April 23, 2025, when, according to her, the government was confronted with the issue of Lika being poisoned by forever chemicals that cause cancer.

Orešković linked her post to current media reports about illegally dumped waste, stating that this is a matter of national security. "Today, the media (Večernji list) report that the Mafia has threatened national security through poison smuggling. That is true. However, what is missing is the conclusion that HDZ is that Mafia threatening us," the MP wrote.

Accusations against institutions

In her sharp post, Orešković claimed that such "mafia-like moves by the government" are possible because HDZ, under PM Andrej Plenković, has dismantled all anti-corruption institutions. "All of them, from the Conflict of Interest Commission to the DORH, do their job according to HDZ's party orders, not the law," she stated.

The MP accused the ruling party of creating a system where "poisoning with forever chemicals and heavy metals in illegal waste" and "enrichment of private clinics through treatment of increased numbers of oncology patients" happen simultaneously. She added that this is "the true face and reverse side of HDZ's politics."

"Who hates you, dear citizens? Me, or those who poison you, while their donors and party leaders profit handsomely-first from the poison, then from treating the sick, first illegally, then legally with the help of HDZ's system?"

Plenković announces waste remediation

On the same day, PM Plenković posted on X about waste in Gospić and Lika. "All those responsible for waste disposal in Gospić and Lika must be held accountable, and the competent authorities are dealing with this," the PM wrote.

He added that the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition and the Environmental Protection Fund have the task of remediating the waste through a lawful and transparent procedure. He cited baled waste in Varaždin as an example of successful problem-solving, saying the same approach will be applied in Lika.

Visit to Sinj ahead of Alka

On the same day, Plenković also posted a series of photos from his visit to Sinj ahead of the 311th Sinjska Alka. "It is a great pleasure to be in Sinj again this year, as tradition dictates, ahead of the 311th Sinjska Alka, an event that has preserved the tradition, values, and identity of the Cetina region for centuries," the PM wrote.

On that occasion, he visited the mayor of Trilj, Ivan Bugarin, and met with Alka Duke Mario Šušnjar, standard-bearer Marijan Pavlinušić, former Alka harambaša Ivo Vukasović, Alka harambaša Pavle Križanac, and alajčauš Ivica Filipović Grčić. The tour also included the Church of Our Lady of Sinj and the new chapel of St. Francis of Assisi.

The PM said the government will continue to provide strong institutional and financial support to Sinj, the Knights' Alka Society, and projects important for the development of the Cetina region.
