The klapa fest in Žrnovnica broke attendance records. More than 600 visitors enjoyed last night's 17th edition of the klapa festival at Antoničin mlin, organized by the Žrvanj Association. It was hot not only because of the strong bura wind and 33 degrees in the air, but also because of the authentic klapa singing that, performed by some of Dalmatia's finest klapas, heated up the atmosphere in the magical space of the historic mill.
The hosts, klapa Sveti Florijan from Žrnovnica, sang for the audience, joined by klapas Neverin from Kaštel Lukšić, Mriža from Split, Stivanja from Trogir, Mirabella from Omiš, Stobreč from Stobreč, and Okruk from Okrug Donji, whose playful "teasing" songs visibly won the hearts of the audience. Each klapa received a handmade gift-an apple crafted by association member and artist Jagoda Mihanović.
Particularly exciting was the traditional "klapa mixing." Host Mariola Milardović Perić, with the help of Žrvanj member Kažimir Marin, drew 9 names for each of the two newly formed klapas, klapa Glavica and klapa Rakite. These two klapas, composed of randomly selected members from various male and female klapas, sang one traditional Dalmatian song each without any preparation. Glavica performed "U poju se mala," and Rakite performed "Čija je ono divojka."
The latter won due to slightly longer applause from the audience, and the members of this klapa received a package of flour from Antoničin mlin and a seedling of the Žrnovnica apple, provided by Botanički vrh.
The icing on the cake was a concert by the legendary klapa Cambi, who presented their greatest hits from their rich pop-klapa career to the audience. Edi Šegota and company strung together evergreens like "Od zipke do križa" and "Vilo moja," with the audience enthusiastically singing along to every song.
The Žrvanj Association has already announced another event for August 28, 2026: the 5th edition of Perun Full Moon at Vršina above Gornja Podstrana.
