Osijek's footballers recorded their second convincing away victory at the start of the new SuperSport HNL season. In the first match of the 2nd round, played on August 8, 2026, in Velika Gorica, they defeated Rudeš 6-1 (4-0), thus confirming their excellent form following last week's triumph over Gorica on the same pitch.

The hosts entered the match boldly and, in the opening ten minutes, caused problems for the visitors with a high press, but it all came to naught after Osijek's first serious attack. The visitors then demonstrated ruthless finishing and had effectively decided the winner by halftime.

Leon and Omerović Break Rudeš in the First Half

The first goal of the match came in the 12th minute. Vrbančić won the ball in midfield and played a perfect through ball behind the defense to Armando Leon. The Mexican striker found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Rogić and calmly slotted home for the lead.

Leon doubled the lead in the 28th minute, once again showing his positional sense in the penalty area. Omerović and Jurišić combined on the left flank, a sharp low cross was delivered into the six-yard box, and Leon reacted quickest, slamming the ball into the net from a few meters out.

The end of the half belonged to Nail Omerović, who broke the hosts completely with two quick goals. In the 41st minute, Bukvić played him through with a vertical pass, and Omerović was clinical. Just three minutes later, in the 44th, he and Leon pressed Unušić, robbed him of the ball, and Omerović then raced toward goal and scored to make it a massive 4-0 at halftime.

Jakupović's Rocket and Omerović's Hat-Trick

In the second half, the game understandably settled into a calmer rhythm, but Osijek did not stop. In the 68th minute, Bukvić shot from an angle, and his effort whistled just wide of the goal. A minute later, Darnel Jakupović was far more accurate. He set himself up for a shot about twenty meters from goal and scored with a powerful, precise strike to make it 5-0, netting one of the goals of the evening.

The final blow to Rudeš came once again from Omerović, completing his hat-trick in the 81st minute. After a nice move involving Vrbančić and a return pass from Bukvić, Omerović scored with a precise shot from the edge of the penalty area to make it 6-0. Although sources differ on the exact distance, Prigorski reports he shot from 13 meters, while Hrvatska Danas mentions approximately 11 meters.

Consolation Goal for Rudeš at the End

Rudeš did manage to soften the defeat. In the 84th minute, following a free-kick delivery from Pejić, Lenny Ilečić rose highest and, with a fine header from over ten meters out, set the final score at 1-6. It was merely a consolation goal for the hosts, who remained pointless after two rounds.

With this victory, Osijek confirmed a superb start to the season. After two rounds, they have a maximum six points and an impressive goal difference of 8-1, placing them at the top of the table. Rudeš, on the other hand, sit at the very bottom with two defeats and a goal difference of 2-8.
