Croatia is set to experience the peak of the heatwave tomorrow, with the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) issuing a red alert for the entire country. Temperatures in some parts of the country will reach up to 39 degrees Celsius, and the very hot weather will continue into Thursday.
In eastern Croatia, it will be sunny and clear. Morning temperatures are expected to range between 15 and 20 degrees, rising to 37 to 39 degrees during the day. It will be equally hot in central and western regions, with maximum daily temperatures ranging from 36 to 38 degrees.
In mountainous Croatia and the northern Adriatic, mostly sunny weather will prevail. Morning fog is possible in some places, with morning temperatures in Lika and Gorski Kotar ranging from 14 to 19 degrees, while on the coast and islands, they will be between 20 and 25 degrees. Daytime temperatures on the coast and islands will range from 33 to 38 degrees.
For the central Adriatic and the interior of Dalmatia, the highest daily temperatures are forecast to range from 33 to 38 degrees. In the Zagora region, moderate cloud development is expected in the afternoon, with possible local showers. The far south of the country will be clear and hot, with morning temperatures from 21 to 26 degrees and daytime temperatures between 32 and 37 degrees.
DHMZ has issued a red alert for Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and Thursday, August 6, 2026. A weather change is expected from Friday, August 7, 2026, with more clouds, rain, and thunderstorms. Some places may experience stronger downpours, along with a drop in temperatures.
On the Adriatic, Thursday will be sunny and hot. For Friday and Saturday in Dalmatia, mostly sunny weather is forecast, while the northern Adriatic will see the onset of the bura wind. It will be less hot, with variable cloudiness and possible local showers and thunderstorms, as meteorologist Krunoslav Mikec from DHMZ told HRT.
