What was supposed to be a routine package pickup at a FedEx office in Memphis, Tennessee, turned into a scene straight out of a comedy film. When 41-year-old Roderik Duncan opened the box containing his new pet, a massive iguana suddenly leaped out and scurried across the counter, causing widespread panic among the employees. The entire incident, which occurred on August 5, 2026, was accidentally captured on Meta smart glasses that Duncan was wearing.
Duncan decided to pick up the iguana in person at the office rather than have it delivered to his home, concerned about the high summer temperatures that could harm the animal during transport. FedEx typically allows domestic shipping of certain harmless reptiles via express delivery, with prior approval and proper packaging. The workers initially believed the package contained a fish, but they soon learned the truth.
"Can you take it out so we can check if it's alive?" Duncan recalled them asking, as reported by Kurir.rs. They got their answer almost immediately. As soon as he opened the box, the iguana jumped out and ran, and one of the female employees was so frightened that she fell to the floor. "My first thought was: 'Wow, it's much bigger than I expected.' It was larger, thicker, and more mature than I thought," Duncan recounted, estimating that the new iguana was nearly twice the size of his existing one.
Duncan tried to remain calm to avoid further agitating the animal, especially after seeing the employee fall. "I was worried about her," he said, aware that the iguana posed no threat to the people in the room. Ironically, the entire incident was recorded on camera completely by accident because he was wearing Meta smart glasses, which he also uses as prescription glasses, to film just the pet pickup.
It wasn't until he got home and reviewed the footage that he realized how hilarious the whole scene looked. The video quickly went viral, amassing millions of views and a flood of comments from social media users who were entertained by the employees' reactions.
However, not everyone believed it was a coincidence. Some users accused Duncan of deliberately letting the iguana loose to create a viral video. "I hate that people think it was staged," he stated, and he subsequently released the full footage to prove that the incident was not set up.
Despite the chaos at the office, the new pet, which was named Titan due to its size and surprisingly calm demeanor, proved to be completely relaxed upon arriving home. Duncan says he is currently letting the iguana acclimate to its new surroundings, and in the coming weeks, he plans to start a regular feeding routine and get it used to handling. "He's pretty calm. He hasn't jumped around or caused any trouble," he concluded. Titan will share a special pet room with Duncan's first iguana and his dog.
