A quick trip by car to Dubrovnik's historic core has become a real luxury. Those who want to park at Pile, practically at the very entrance to the Old Town, must shell out 20 euros for the first hour. Each additional hour costs another 10 euros, so the bill quickly adds up.
For two hours of parking, drivers are already at 30 euros, and three hours reach 40 euros. When you add other outing expenses, parking can easily become one of the most expensive items of the entire visit to the Old Town, as JUGInfo notes in an analysis published on August 17, 2026.
The advantage of the expensive parking at Pile is obvious: you leave your car right next to the historic core, without circling the surrounding streets and extra walking. But the question is how much that comfort is really worth.
Those willing to walk a few minutes can get a much better deal. In parts of Zone 2 around Iza Grada, an hour of parking costs only 1.30 euros. Gradac is also an option, depending on where you can find a free spot and how suitable the location is.
The problem is that during the summer, a free parking spot is almost as valuable as the time lost searching for one. That's why many drivers will still opt for the more expensive option, just to avoid circling the city for half an hour.
As the JUGInfo article's author points out, in Dubrovnik today, the question is no longer just "Should I drive to the Old Town?" but also "How much does it cost me to decide not to walk?", and the answer at Pile is very concrete: 20 euros for the first hour.
For those coming to take care of something important and wanting to be as close as possible, that amount might make sense. For a coffee, a short stroll, or a quick errand, 20 euros an hour is still a figure that will make you think twice about where to leave your car.
