Mayor Magdalena Komes highlighted the unwavering resilience of Petrinja's residents, who rise again after every adversity, while Kristina Suppe, director of the Tourist Board, emphasized the enthusiasm driving the city's development.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Petrinja marked Lovrenčevo and City Day with a celebration that drew numerous residents and visitors throughout the day. The main events took place at Strossmayer Promenade and in the city park, where tradition, local entrepreneurship, and a rich cultural program intertwined.
At Strossmayer Promenade, more than 70 exhibitors showcased their products and work, including family farms, artisans, associations, and local producers. This turnout is not just a number but a strong indicator of economic activity and the desire for recovery.
For small producers, such events are a crucial opportunity for direct contact with the audience, while also demonstrating how local production remains an integral part of the city's identity. The city park was filled with traditional offerings, local products, folklore, and programs designed for the youngest.
This year's Lovrenčevo once again proved that a city celebration can be much more than a formal commemoration of a date. The toy festival, performances by cultural-artistic societies, and folklore ensembles connected different generations and all those who daily shape the life of the city.
Mayor Magdalena Komes particularly emphasized the strength of the people who, after everything Petrinja has endured, continued to rebuild their city.
"When we look today at the wealth Petrinja possesses-culturally and historically, but above all the wealth of its people-we see that the people of Petrinja do not give up. After every adversity, they rise again and move forward," she said.
This message carries special weight in Petrinja. Every return of residents to the squares, every open event, and every new offering-after the devastating earthquake and lengthy reconstruction-is also a sign that life is returning to normal. Full streets and parks, local producers, children's laughter, and preserved tradition represent a tangible return of life to a place that has gone through one of the most challenging periods in its recent history.
Kristina Suppe, who leads the Tourist Board of the City of Petrinja, noted that the numerous exhibitors and visitors testify to how many people contribute to the city's progress through their hard work and enthusiasm. Lovrenčevo is thus not only an opportunity to preserve Petrinja's tradition but also a mirror of a community that refuses to give up.
