The Croatian U20 water polo national team clinched the European Championship title by defeating Spain in the final held in Varna, Bulgaria. On this occasion, the Prefect of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Blaž Pezo, extended his congratulations to the Croatian Water Polo Federation, all players, and members of the national team.
Congratulations with Special Emphasis on Local Talent
In his congratulatory message, published on August 18, 2026, Prefect Pezo particularly highlighted the role of young water polo players from Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Maro Šušić, Ante Jerković, and Antoan Špilar, members of VK Jug Adriatic osiguranje, played a crucial role in this great success, as did assistant coach Igor Računica.
"We are especially delighted that young water polo players from Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Maro Šušić, Ante Jerković, and Antoan Špilar, members of VK Jug Adriatic osiguranje, as well as assistant coach Igor Računica, who orchestrated this masterpiece from the bench, played a decisive role in this great achievement."
The Prefect emphasized that this summer of Croatian water polo reached its pinnacle following two world gold medals in younger age categories, and that the U20 team confirms the bright future of Croatian water polo.
Recognition for the Head Coach and Federation
The congratulations were also extended to head coach Zoran Bajić and the Croatian Water Polo Federation. Pezo expressed pride in the dedication, fight, selflessness, and love for water polo that the players demonstrated at the championship, stating that the new generation continues the path of success written through hard work, unity, and a winning character.
