On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at around 7:10 PM, a serious accident occurred in Novalja. A thirty-year-old Croatian citizen was riding a moped with Zagreb license plates. Due to excessive speed, he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into a tree.
According to police information, the driver was under the influence of alcohol. This impaired his ability to react in time and stop the moped, resulting in the off-road excursion and a violent impact. He sustained severe injuries and was given emergency medical attention at the scene.
Following the investigation, police once again warn all drivers, especially those on motorcycles and mopeds, not to operate a vehicle if they have consumed alcohol. Alcohol prolongs reaction time, reduces focus, and disrupts distance judgment, and combined with speeding, can lead to tragic outcomes.
