The Dubrovnik police have reported an incident that could easily be filed under "believe it or not." At the Karasovići border crossing, a 67-year-old North Macedonian national drove up on August 16, 2026, for his vehicle to be inspected, but the situation quickly spiraled out of control.
The driver was operating a truck with a trailer. While preparing for the inspection, he began reversing. In doing so, the side of the trailer struck and damaged the border control booth owned by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Croatia.
After the incident, police administered a breathalyzer test and found that the driver had a blood alcohol level of 2.51 grams per kilogram. He was subsequently taken into custody and reported for the offense. He was fined €1,580 and given a three-month ban on using his foreign driver's license in Croatia.
According to a report from Večernji list, the entire incident began on August 16 when the 67-year-old drove up to the Karasovići border crossing. After his vehicle was to be inspected, the driver caused damage to the border police booth while maneuvering in reverse. Police immediately responded and conducted a breathalyzer test, which revealed an extremely high blood alcohol level.
The damaged border control booth is owned by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Croatia, and in addition to the fine, the driver was also banned from using his foreign driver's license in Croatia for a period of three months.
