Police officers from the Zagreb police department stopped a 40-year-old driver in Sesvete on July 31, 2026, at around 11:20 PM. The vehicle with Zagreb license plates was traveling north on Glavna cesta and was stopped at house number 35, reports Stijena.info.
The breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 2.42 grams per kilogram. After being offered a professional medical examination, including blood and urine sampling for further analysis, the 40-year-old refused. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the competent misdemeanor court.
The Zagreb police, in their indictment proposal, requested a fine of 1,480 euros and a protective measure banning the driver from operating B-category vehicles for three months. However, the court found the 40-year-old guilty and imposed a fine of 160 euros, a suspended prison sentence of 15 days, and a ban on driving B-category vehicles for the next three months.
The blood alcohol concentration measured in this driver far exceeds the legal limit. Driving in such a state significantly slows reactions, impairs distance judgment, and dramatically increases the risk of traffic accidents. Thanks to the police's timely intervention, the driver was removed from traffic before he could endanger other road users.
This case also confirms that refusing a medical examination does not prevent further police action, arrest, and bringing the suspect before the court.
