Summary
  • A 34-year-old woman with 1.76 per mille caused an accident and was fined 1,440 euros.
  • A 43-year-old man with 2.25 per mille was stopped half an hour later and fined 1,240 euros.
  • Police did not explain why the more drunk driver received a fine 200 euros lower.

Two drivers in Vukovar were caught under the influence of alcohol on Monday evening, and both spent the night in a special room until the effects of alcohol wore off. Interestingly, the driver with the higher measured blood alcohol concentration received a lighter fine, raising questions about the consistency of police procedures.

Female Driver Caused Accident with 1.76 Per Mille

According to the report from the Croatian Ministry of the Interior, a 34-year-old woman from Vukovar was stopped around 10:50 PM. Behind the wheel of a vehicle with Vukovar license plates, she was found to have 1.76 per mille of alcohol in her blood, and she had also been involved in an accident causing material damage.

The fine imposed by a misdemeanor order amounted to 1,440 euros, along with a three-month suspension of her B-category driver's license and six penalty points. After processing, she was placed in a special room until the effects of alcohol wore off.

Half an Hour Later, an Even More Drunk Driver Was Stopped

Just half an hour later, around 11:20 PM, police stopped a 43-year-old man from Vukovar. The man, driving a car with Vukovar plates, was also under the influence of alcohol, with a test showing 2.25 per mille.

He also received a three-month driving ban for B-category vehicles and six penalty points, but his fine was 1,240 euros-200 euros less than the female driver with a lower alcohol concentration.

Police Did Not Explain the Difference in Fines

The difference in the fines imposed seems somewhat unusual. Despite the 43-year-old having a higher amount of alcohol in his system-2.25 per mille compared to the woman's 1.76 per mille-his fine was 200 euros lower.

The official police report did not state why the man with the higher alcohol level received a smaller fine, leaving the reason for this discrepancy unclear. As reported by Budica Info, the circumstances will be reviewed and further information will be provided later.
