For many, a summer vacation on the Croatian coast is synonymous with relaxation, but choosing the right accommodation can sometimes lead to bitter disappointments. This is exactly what tourist Marija experienced, as she shared her unpleasant surprise in the Facebook group "Croatia Apartments" after arriving at a mobile home in Sveti Filip i Jakov. She paid €250 per night, but what she found was far from what she expected.
A Shock Upon Arrival
Marija recounted that problems arose as soon as they crossed the threshold. The outside temperature was 37 degrees Celsius, and the interior offered no respite. "When we walked in at 37 degrees, the AC wasn't working, the fridge was off, and there wasn't a glass of cold water to be had. No toilet paper either, no hand soap. I mean, the basics are missing, but the lady sure knew how to charge €250," wrote the disappointed guest.
According to her, not a single item from the listing description was honored. "Everything she listed in the description, she didn't honor any of it," Marija added, noting that she doesn't want to publicly name the host for now. Her post quickly sparked a wave of reactions among group members.
Users Outraged by the Price-to-Service Ratio
Comments poured in, with many believing that €250 per night was absolutely unjustified for the conditions offered. One user sharply commented: "For that money, you should get breakfast, lunch, and dinner. What is this, €250 for a fridge that doesn't work and probably a bed, a mattress, so the springs don't pop out."
Another group member drew a direct comparison with hotel accommodation, emphasizing that hotels have become a more affordable option. "My family is at a hotel right now for €120 a day, full board. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, outdoor pool, tennis court, kids' workshop... The beach is a two-minute walk away. Hotels are now cheaper than apartments and campsites, and you have no worries, just relaxation. Two adults and two kids," she wrote.
Checking Before Booking Is Key to a Peaceful Vacation
Situations like this once again highlight how important it is for tourists to thoroughly check reviews, booking conditions, and what exactly is included in the price before making a payment. This is especially crucial during the peak tourist season when accommodation prices reach their highest, and disappointment can ruin an entire annual vacation.
