In Rovinj, police officers conducted a criminal investigation and suspected that a 35-year-old man, a Croatian citizen, was responsible for a criminal offense related to the illegal production and distribution of drugs. A search of a house in the Rovinj area was carried out on August 18, 2026, based on a court order, after police officers gathered information about drug cultivation and possession through operational work, the Istrian police reported on August 19, 2026.
When officers entered the home, the 30-year-old man immediately tried to destroy material that could be important for the investigation-specifically, he attempted to throw the drugs off the balcony. Since he did not follow police instructions, officers had to use physical force to restrain him. Restraint measures were also used on three other men, aged 35, 37, and 41, and no one was injured during the operation, according to Istra Terra Magica.
Indoor Grow Box and Drug Quantities
During the search, police officers found an improvised so-called indoor grow box in the basement areas used by the 35-year-old, containing three cannabis plants. Additionally, they found 2.05 grams of amphetamine and 0.3 grams of marijuana.
In the areas used by the 30-year-old, they found 1.75 grams of amphetamine. In the part of the house belonging to the 37-year-old, they discovered 0.3 grams of amphetamine and 4.9 grams of amphetamine, while in the area used by the 41-year-old, they found 3.05 grams of amphetamine.
Joint and Misdemeanor Proceedings
A 24-year-old also lives in the house, and police officers found one cigarette of a tobacco and marijuana mixture, i.e., a so-called joint, in his rooms. Due to a violation of the Law on Combating Drug Abuse-specifically, for possessing drugs for personal use-misdemeanor proceedings were initiated against the suspect.
The 35-year-old also faces misdemeanor proceedings for possessing amphetamine and marijuana, and in addition, a criminal complaint has been filed against him with the competent prosecutor's office for cannabis cultivation.
