Criminal investigation related to the Pijesak Affair continues in Slavonski Brod. The City, UZGŠO, and Monika j.d.o.o. remain silent on yesterday's inquiries about documentation, while police act on the order of the County State Attorney's Office.
Police officers from the Brod-Posavina Police Department continued their operation in the premises of the Slavonski Brod City Administration on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The black Škoda they arrived in was again parked behind the city administration building. The criminal investigation, which began the previous day, is being conducted at the order of the County State Attorney's Office in Slavonski Brod and is focused on documentation related to the Pijesak Affair.
The atmosphere within the city administration was described by an employee who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the situation. "They were digging all day yesterday, looking for a pile of papers, and they're continuing today. Don't call me until evening; I really can't tell you anything more right now," he told 035portal. His words suggest an extensive search for documents, although it is not known which specific jobs, individuals, or companies it pertains to.
According to HRT, the police are using these investigations to verify media reports about favoritism toward certain companies during the construction of volleyball courts. No details have been released about the companies mentioned or the contracts and jobs under review. The execution of the investigation does not imply that anyone's responsibility has been established; it is merely the initial phase in which the competent authorities are verifying the credibility of available claims and seeking documents that could clarify the decision-making process related to the project.
The Brod-Posavina Police Department officially confirmed that they are conducting the investigation. "Police officers of the Brod-Posavina Police Department are conducting an investigation, i.e., a criminal investigation, in accordance with the order of the County State Attorney's Office in Slavonski Brod, and due to the protection of the confidentiality of the proceedings, we cannot provide more information to the public," reads their response to the journalist's inquiry.
The 035portal editorial team sent inquiries yesterday to the City of Slavonski Brod, the Institution for Sports Facility Management (UZGŠO), and the company Monika j.d.o.o., but no responses were received from those addresses. The questions concerned the documentation that the police may have requested or seized, including contracts, invoices, and purchase orders related to the construction of volleyball courts at Vijuš, as well as business relations with Monika j.d.o.o.
The City of Slavonski Brod did not respond to questions about whether police officers spoke with Mayor Mirko Duspara or Head of Department Ankica Majetić. It also did not comment on allegations of possible favoritism toward certain companies or the legality of the disputed transactions.
UZGŠO was asked about its role in the Vijuš project and the circumstances surrounding the departure of former director Miroslav Stefanović. His departure from the head of the institution was mentioned by independent city councilor Slavica Lemaić at a press conference, highlighting it as a circumstance that deserves attention. UZGŠO also did not provide a response.
Monika j.d.o.o., a company associated with the Vijuš project, was asked about the value of the work, the contracting process, and communication with city officials. As of the time of writing, they have not commented either.
A key part of the checks will be the analysis of extensive documentation, and only after the investigation and review of collected materials will the attorney's office decide whether there will be further actions or whether the checks will be concluded without further steps. The Slavonski Brod City Administration has not yet been included in any publicly announced decision to initiate further proceedings, and the available information pertains solely to the investigation, so its results must be awaited before drawing conclusions about potential irregularities.
