The Zadar Police Department released details on Tuesday of the tragic incident in which a 56-year-old Croatian citizen, doctor Tomislav Sorić, lost his life on Monday. According to the investigation results, death occurred due to drowning after sustaining severe injuries from a boat's propeller, having previously jumped into the sea from the vessel.
The police received the report of the accident on August 10, 2026, at approximately 4:10 PM. According to the report, the 56-year-old jumped from a boat into the sea in a cove near Mali Iž, but after entering the water, he did not resurface.
Police officers and other emergency services immediately joined the search. In the same cove, just a few minutes later, at around 4:15 PM, a body was found floating on the surface of the sea.
Police officers, in cooperation with the Zadar County State Attorney's Office, conducted an investigation at the scene. Based on the order of the State Attorney's Office, an autopsy was also performed on the body of the deceased man.
The evidentiary actions carried out established that this was not a criminal offense, but a fatal accident. After jumping from the vessel into the sea, the man died from the consequences of drowning, and the cause of death was injuries caused by the propeller of the vessel's propulsion engine.
