From the beginning of the year to the end of July, 69 misdemeanors against public order and peace were recorded in the area of the Dubrovnik Police Station, with the majority of interventions related to brawls, arguments, and shouting.
The summer months in Dubrovnik, along with the sea and entertainment, bring increased police engagement. Although viral videos of inappropriate behavior on social media create an impression of chaos, official statistics reveal a somewhat different picture. The biggest challenge for police officers is not extreme incidents, but classic misdemeanors such as arguments, shouting, and brawls.
According to data from the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Administration, from the beginning of the year to July 31, 2026, a total of 278 misdemeanors against public order and peace were recorded in the entire administration area. Of that number, 95 were recorded during the summer, with July standing out with 63 misdemeanors. This represents 22.7 percent of the total number of misdemeanors in the first seven months of this year.
The police explain that this increase is normal for the tourist season. The increased number of domestic and foreign tourists, larger crowds in public places in the evening and at night, concerts, walks, and parties result in more situations requiring police intervention.
When the data is narrowed down to the area of the Dubrovnik Police Station, the numbers become even more concrete. From January to the end of July, a total of 69 misdemeanors against public order and peace were recorded. Of these, 22 were recorded in June and July, while data for August has not yet been published.
The most common incidents, 27 of them, involve brawls, arguments, shouting, and rude behavior. In other words, nearly 40 percent of all misdemeanors in the Dubrovnik Police Station relate to such events. The police also record other types of inappropriate behavior in public places. From the beginning of the year to the end of July, 13 cases of insulting and belittling the moral feelings of citizens were recorded in the entire Police Administration, five of which were in Dubrovnik.
Despite the higher number of misdemeanors during the summer, the Police Administration emphasizes that the overall security situation in the area of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County remains at a high level. Therefore, during the tourist season, the police regularly carry out enhanced preventive and repressive measures.
Police officers patrol daily and intensively in areas identified by analysis as frequent gathering places and residences of a large number of people. Special attention is paid to the city center, the interior and approaches to the old town, areas around cafes and nightclubs, as well as public parks and beaches. Through the Safe Tourist Destination project, foreign police officers are also included in joint patrols, helping with communication, prevention, and handling foreign visitors.
The goal of these activities, as stated by the police, is a quick response, preventing the escalation of conflicts, and punishing unacceptable behavior of individuals. August is just beginning, so the full picture of the season will only become clear later.
