Officers of the Zadar maritime and airport police have concluded an investigation against two young men, Croatian citizens, aged 19, suspected of committing the criminal offense of theft. According to a statement from the Zadar police, the young men stole a parked truck owned by a commercial company on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at around 11:30 PM in the town of Kali on the island of Ugljan.
Escape towards Pašman ended in a collision with a pole
With the stolen vehicle, the suspects then drove towards Neviđane on the island of Pašman. Their drive was interrupted on a section of state road DC-110, where they collided with a metal lighting pole, after which they exited the vehicle and fled the scene of the accident.
Fire engulfed olive and fig trees
As a result of the vehicle's impact with the pole and sparks, a fire broke out, spreading to the surrounding low vegetation and olive and fig trees. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, and police officers conducted an on-site investigation. The amount of material damage caused will be assessed subsequently.
Criminal complaint filed against both
Following the criminal investigation, the police filed a criminal complaint against both suspects with the competent Municipal State Attorney's Office in Zadar. Both are charged with the criminal offense of theft.
