The Municipality of Muć has declared war on illegal waste dumpers, and the first battle was won on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when a serial polluter was caught in a coordinated ambush by the police, the Environmental Inspection, and local self-government. The individual with a Solin address was caught in the act of unloading large quantities of garbage into the untouched nature of this part of Zagora.
The entire operation was photo-documented and published on the official website of the Municipality of Muć, with a clear message to anyone considering a similar endeavor. "The area of the Municipality of Muć is not a place for illegal waste disposal!" the Municipality stated, emphasizing that such actions by irresponsible individuals, craftsmen, and legal entities will no longer be tolerated.
The municipal mayor, whose name sources report differently as Mato Bebić (according to Slobodna Dalmacija) and Vedran Bebić (according to Tportal), did not hide his anger and determination. In a statement to the media, he stressed that dumping waste in nature is tantamount to an ecological crime and called on residents to be vigilant and cooperative.
"This is a crime against the environment! The Municipality of Muć will no longer be their dumping ground, and we will, in cooperation with other competent institutions, take all measures within our power to stop this. I call on residents to cooperate with municipal services; they are poisoning our air, soil, flora, and fauna... Let's put an end to it together!" Mayor Bebić told Slobodna Dalmacija.
In a similar tone, but with even stronger words, the mayor described the scale of the threat to Tportal, stating that polluters are not only destroying nature but also poisoning the air and soil, thereby directly endangering human health, flora, and fauna.
The Municipality of Muć particularly thanked its citizens for their responsibility, engagement, and the crucial information that led to the identification of the perpetrator. They also highlighted the importance of the legal and expert assistance provided by the Sunce Association, which further strengthened the institutional fight against this type of crime.
This event marks only the beginning, as the Municipality announces, of a long-term and uncompromising struggle to preserve the environment in Zagora and protect the health and quality of life of its residents.
