Two minors were removed from traffic on Sunday, August 9, 2026, after police stopped them while riding motorcycles, both before they were legally eligible to drive, and one with additional violations that dramatically raise the cost of their recklessness. Fines for such offenses reach up to €3,040, with the threat of up to 60 days in jail.
The first case was recorded around noon in Bušetina, where police officers spotted a motorcyclist without a protective helmet. A quick check soon revealed that the rider was a minor operating an unregistered motorcycle, and a driver's license, he couldn't have one anyway, as he had not yet earned the right to operate vehicles in that category.
For this series of violations, the prescribed fine ranges from €1,710 to €3,040, with up to 60 days in jail as an alternative. On top of that, the minor faces a protective measure of a three-month driving ban for A1 category vehicles, as well as six negative penalty points, enough to saddle him with a serious burden even before he takes his driving test.
The second incident occurred the same day at 9:20 PM in Virovitica, where police also stopped a minor riding a motorcycle. He, too, was driving before earning the right to do so, but without the additional aggravating circumstances that marked the case in Bušetina.
For this violation, the legislator has provided a somewhat lighter financial blow, a fine ranging from €1,320 to €2,650, or up to 60 days in jail. However, the protective measure remains identical: a three-month driving ban for A category vehicles and six negative penalty points that will follow him when he finally gets behind the wheel with a license.
Misdemeanor proceedings will be initiated against both minors, and the Virovitica-Podravina Police Department has issued an appeal aimed equally at young drivers and their parents, urging them to consistently respect traffic regulations. The goal is clear: more safety on the roads and fewer accidents that, judging by such cases, happen before young drivers even get a chance to prove they can drive.
