Zagreb police stopped a stolen car with Varaždin license plates in the early hours of August 13, 2026, following a brief chase in the very heart of the city. According to information from Stijena.info, the vehicle was spotted on Draškovićeva Street at around 11:35 PM, and a check revealed it had been previously stolen in the area covered by the Varaždin Police Department.
The car, a Škoda Fabia owned by a 63-year-old man, was stolen on Wednesday, August 12, between 9 and 10 PM on Miroslava Krleže Street in Varaždin, as reported by Zagorje International. An unknown perpetrator took the vehicle at that time, and Zagreb police found it just a few hours later.
Police officers immediately attempted to stop the occupants, but the driver and passenger did not respond to light and sound signals. As a result, a controlled pursuit began through Medveščak, during which officers prioritized the safety of other road users and waited for a suitable location to safely bring the vehicle to a halt.
Soon, another police vehicle joined in, after which the car was stopped on Draškovićeva Street. No information regarding potential property damage or injuries during the chase has been released by the police. The operation took place on one of the busiest streets in central Zagreb.
Upon stopping the vehicle, officers detained both occupants and transported them to the police station. While the identities of the suspects remain unknown to the public, it has been confirmed that the driver was 33 years old and the passenger was 30. According to Večernji list, officers from the 5th Police Station in Zagreb stopped the Škoda, driven by a 33-year-old man, with a 30-year-old passenger inside.
Since the vehicle was originally stolen in the Varaždin area, criminal investigators from the Varaždin Police Department will continue the investigation. Their task is to clarify the details of the theft, how the stolen vehicle came into the possession of the arrested individuals, and whether there is any connection to other criminal activity.
