A mild tremor was recorded on Sunday evening, with the epicenter located between Jastrebarsko and Zagreb. Although weak, the earthquake was felt by residents of Lasinja and Pokupsko, who described a frightening noise.
The Seismological Office of the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) recorded an earthquake of magnitude 2.0 in the wider Zagreb area on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 9:29 PM local time. The epicenter was located at coordinates 45.610 degrees north latitude and 15.750 degrees east longitude, at a depth of approximately 12 kilometers.
According to ARSO data, the epicenter was approximately 29 kilometers southwest of Zagreb and about ten kilometers east-southeast of Jastrebarsko. Given the low magnitude, this was a mild tremor that typically does not cause material damage.
Although it was a weak earthquake, residents in surrounding areas felt the shaking. In Lasinja, about 16 kilometers southeast of the epicenter, a local described his experience to Zagreb.info.
"It sounded like something snapped, and then it shook,"he said.
Similar accounts came from Pokupsko, located 24 kilometers southeast of the epicenter.
"First a loud sound, like something exploded, and then a brief shake,"a resident recounted to Zagreb.info. Another local added that he felt a strong, short rumble followed by his roof creaking.
