The Džanija family from Banovci has been left without a roof over their heads after a fire engulfed their family home. The Nijemci municipality has issued a public appeal for donations of materials, clothing, and labor to help the six children and their parents return to a safe home as soon as possible.
On August 10, 2026, the Nijemci municipality issued an urgent public call for humanitarian aid for the Džanija family from Banovci. Their family home was recently hit by a fire that, fortunately, caused no injuries but resulted in immense material damage, leaving the family of six children without basic living conditions.
The fire destroyed walls, ceilings, joinery, furniture, clothing, personal belongings, and part of the household equipment. The family immediately began cleaning and repairing on their own, but they face work and costs they cannot bear alone.
The first to contact the municipality for help were education system employees. "The class teacher of the girl attending Banovci Elementary School and the principal of Ilača-Banovci Elementary School, who are in direct contact with the family and aware of their current needs, approached us for help," said Belajević, the mayor of Nijemci municipality.
The municipality calls on all people of goodwill, residents, craftsmen, and anyone else who can to join the campaign. Help is needed in the form of construction materials, renovation work, clothing and footwear for the children and parents, and household supplies.
"We invite all people of goodwill, residents, craftsmen, and others who can help with materials, labor, clothing and footwear for the children and parents, household supplies, or in any other way to get involved," Mayor Belajević said in the municipality's announcement.
