A Break from the Heat Arrives on Wednesday

While much of Europe continues to swelter under above-average summer heat, Croatia is bracing for a brief change. The cooler air touching only the far north of the continent cannot penetrate further due to a strong high-pressure system, but its southeastern edge brings a bit of moisture that could trigger isolated instability in inland Dalmatia.
According to the forecast released on Tuesday evening, Wednesday will bring mostly sunny weather with occasional moderate cloud cover. In the northern regions, there may be some light rain. The wind will be weak to moderate from the northeast, while the Adriatic will see a moderate to strong bora wind, with gale-force gusts under Velebit.
Morning temperatures will range from 17 to 22 degrees Celsius inland, with the mountainous areas noticeably cooler at around 15, while the coast will start the day warm with temperatures between 26 and 30 degrees.
In central and eastern Croatia, the day will be sunny and less hot. The highest daily temperatures will range from 30 to 32 degrees, although the eastern parts could reach 33 in the afternoon. Gorski Kotar and the Northern Adriatic will also enjoy sunny weather, with temperatures in the mountains from 27 to 31, and on the coast from 34 to 37 degrees.
However, Dalmatia remains the hotspot of the heatwave. It will be mostly sunny there, although showers and thunderstorms are possible inland. The bora will weaken slightly and locally turn to a northwest wind, and further south to a southwest wind. Temperatures will continue to range from hot to very hot, between 34 and 39 degrees.
The summer heat is also reflected in the above-average warm sea. The sea temperature this morning ranged between 26 and 29 degrees. While the sea is ideal for cooling off, caution is advised due to the high and very high UV index, which will persist in the mountainous region on Wednesday as well.
The heatwave will end on Wednesday inland, first in the central and eastern regions. On the Adriatic, it will continue, although it will weaken slightly towards the weekend. On Thursday, a strong bora is expected under Velebit with gale-force gusts, while on Saturday the wind on the Adriatic will completely weaken.
However, the relief will not last long. According to current forecasts, from Sunday to Tuesday, the heat will intensify again inland, while on the Adriatic, paradoxically, it will weaken. It seems that summer will once again show its fickle nature.
