Incident after the Copa do Brasil match, where Santos beat Remo 1-0, escalated in the stadium corridor, with Neymar provoking opposing fans and staff.
The football match between Santos and Remo in the Brazilian Cup ended with a 1-0 away win for Santos, but the result took a backseat after the visitors' star, Neymar, caused chaos at the Mangueirão stadium after the final whistle. His behavior infuriated the home side, and Remo's president, Antonio Carlos Teixeira, did not mince words to describe the famous Brazilian.
According to Goal.com, Santos secured their place in the quarter-finals with the win. However, as soon as the referee signaled the end, Neymar headed towards Remo's bench and home fans, repeatedly shouting, "You're out!" The situation on the pitch heated up, and several players had to intervene to calm tensions.
A video that quickly went viral on social media shows Neymar in the tunnel to the dressing rooms, dancing and pointing at the Santos crest in front of a group of Remo staff, further provoking them. Kurir.rs reports that the visiting star, while passing by opposing supporters behind the protective barrier, gestured and shouted, "Elimination! Elimination!"
The harshest reaction came from the top of the defeated club. Remo's president, Antonio Carlos Teixeira, did not spare Neymar in a statement carried by Kurir.rs. "Santos doesn't need this... That bum Neymar, idolized by so many children, put on his circus show and mocked us. We are to blame for idolizing a bunch of bums like him," Teixeira said.
His words sparked a storm in the Brazilian public, given that Neymar has been the face of national football for years, playing for giants like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, and winning numerous trophies. In recent years, however, his career has been marred by controversies, from frequent injuries to criticism over his off-field behavior.
The incident comes at a sensitive time for the veteran striker. Goal.com reminds that Neymar announced the end of his international career about a week ago, after Brazil was eliminated in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. His contract with Santos expires in December this year.
Brazilian media report that Neymar was the target of whistles and insults from home fans throughout the match, from the moment he came on at halftime. His teammates had to lead him towards the dressing room, while security guards stood in front of the room to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
