The Međimurje Police Department reported a traffic accident in Peklenica in which a 36-year-old car driver, under the influence of alcohol, collided with a tractor's attachment and sustained injuries requiring hospital treatment in Čakovec.
The traffic accident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at around 7 PM in Peklenica, and was reported the following day by the Međimurje Police Department. In the collision between a tractor and a passenger car, the 36-year-old driver of the car was injured and was transported to the Čakovec County Hospital after the accident.
According to the police report, the accident happened when a 30-year-old tractor driver, with Čakovec license plates and towing an unregistered and uninsured attachment, was making a left turn onto a grassy area.
At that moment, a passenger car with Čakovec plates, driven by a 36-year-old citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina with registered residence in Croatia, struck the front side of the attachment with its front right part, while traveling in the same direction. The driver had overtaken the tractor by crossing over the solid longitudinal line that separates traffic lanes.
A breathalyzer test on the 36-year-old driver revealed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol at 0.67 g/kg, or 0.67 promille. To determine the exact blood alcohol level, blood and urine samples were taken for analysis.
The injured driver was transported by ambulance to the Čakovec County Hospital, where he remained for treatment, and the severity of his injuries will be assessed later. The driver was issued a precautionary measure prohibiting him from operating motor vehicles, and his driver's license was temporarily confiscated.
The Međimurje Police Department reported that the criminal investigation is ongoing to determine all the circumstances of this traffic accident.
