Croatia is set to continue experiencing hot weather with southerly winds and mugginess in the coming days, but a change is on the horizon from Friday that could finally bring precipitation. Katarina Katušić, MSc in physics from DHMZ, provided a detailed regional weather forecast for HRT.
According to her forecast, Wednesday in eastern Croatia will be mostly sunny, but not before a temporarily cloudier night and morning when a few drops of rain may fall. "After a temporarily cloudier night and morning with a possible few drops of rain, the rest of Wednesday in eastern Croatia will be mostly sunny. In the afternoon, a moderate southeasterly wind may blow in some places. The lowest morning temperature will be 16 or 17 °C, and the highest daily temperature around 32 °C," Katušić forecasted.
Similar values are expected in central Croatia. During the cloudier night and morning, light rain is possible in Međimurje and Podravina, followed by sunny conditions everywhere. Winds will be light, turning to moderate southerly and southwesterly during the afternoon.
In the west of the country, with a southwesterly wind, the northern Adriatic will also experience a moderate southerly (jugo). Mostly clear, but in the afternoon there is a very slight chance of a brief shower in the interior of Istria. The lowest temperatures will range from 14 °C in Gorski Kotar to 24 °C on the islands, with daily highs between 29 and 32 °C.
Dalmatia will also be mostly sunny. By midday, a moderate southwesterly wind will pick up, with the southerly (jugo) mainly arriving in the evening. Morning temperatures will mostly range between 19 and 24 °C, while the day will be hot, with maximum temperatures around 32 °C. In the far south of Croatia, a warm night is also expected, and with plenty of sunshine, daytime temperatures could reach as high as 34 °C. With a light to moderate southwesterly wind, the sea will be calm to slight.
The change arrives on Friday. "In the coming days, it won't be completely sunny and dry inland. With occasional more clouds, rain is likely in places from Friday, including in the form of showers with thunderstorms, especially in central and Gorski Kotar. It will be hot, with southerly winds and mugginess, especially on Thursday, and some nights will be warm. The wind will weaken on Saturday," Katušić said.
It will also be unstable on the Adriatic, at least in the northern part. "Unstable conditions will also affect the Adriatic, at least in the northern part where occasional scattered rain and thunderstorms are most likely, with possible heavy downpours on Friday. Further south, it will be sunnier, but on Saturday the probability of local precipitation increases. The southerly wind (jugo) will be moderate, possibly strong on Friday, weakening on Saturday. Air temperatures will drop noticeably in the northern part on Friday, while the heat will persist further south," Katušić forecasted for HRT.
