Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Ferran Torres. The Spanish forward, one of the heroes of the 2026 World Cup triumph, is on the verge of moving to Paris, with the total deal worth €55 million.
According to Catalan outlet Sport, the two European heavyweights, after lengthy negotiations, have agreed on the key terms. The agreed formula includes €50 million fixed fee plus an additional €5 million in potential bonuses, which was the threshold below which Barcelona was unwilling to go.
The negotiations were not straightforward. Paris's initial offer to Barcelona was €40 million plus €10 million in bonuses, but the Catalan club rejected it. Barcelona made it clear they wanted at least €50 million guaranteed.
The talks were led by sporting directors Deco on the Catalan side and Luis Campos on the Parisian side. Torres's departure now seems inevitable, and the forward is expected to say goodbye to his teammates at training on Wednesday before heading to France.
One of the key figures in the entire deal is PSG coach Luis Enrique. He holds Torres in high regard, having known him well from the Spanish national team, and personally presented his plan and the role he intends to give him in Paris over the phone.
Although PSG already have Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Désiré Doué in attack, Luis Enrique wanted more options and a player who can operate in all three attacking positions. Torres fits that profile, as he can play on both wings and as a central striker, and he is already familiar with Enrique's demands.
Ferran Torres is not leaving Barcelona as a player the club is desperate to offload. He is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, with 21 goals in 49 appearances for the club, including 16 goals in 33 league appearances in the 2025/26 season.
The highlight came last summer at the World Cup, where he became one of Spain's heroes. In the final against Argentina, he scored the goal that clinched the world title and was named Man of the Match. Goal.com reports that Torres felt undervalued by Barcelona's management and turned down contract extension offers, deciding that a change of scenery was necessary for his career.
Torres arrived at Camp Nou in January 2022 from Manchester City for a fixed fee of €55 million, although Goal.com lists 2021 as the time of the transfer. His time at the club had its ups and downs, from criticism to moments when he proved to be a highly effective striker.
Now, with a contract running until June 2027, Barcelona will receive almost the same amount they paid for him. PSG, on the other hand, get a 26-year-old Spanish international at the peak of his career, arriving as a direct replacement for Gonçalo Ramos, who moved to AC Milan earlier this summer. Only the final formalities remain: the medical and the signing of the contract in Paris.
