  • Trains from Bjelovar to Zagreb run on the old track or with a bus transfer, extending travel time.
  • The shortest journey takes 1 hour and 19 minutes, and a one-way ticket costs 5.71 euros.
  • The line could reopen on Tuesday, August 11, but passengers are advised to check the schedule.

The closure of the new railway section between Sveti Ivan Žabno and Gradec, a consequence of Saturday's collision between a passenger and a freight train near Škrinjari, has directly disrupted the daily services of HŽ Passenger Transport on the Bjelovar-Zagreb route.

Passengers are currently facing significant changes: some trains have been rerouted to the old track, and bus transport has been introduced for certain departures.

Old Track, Longer Journey

Rerouting to the old track means a return to a series of stops that had been bypassed during modernization. The train departing Bjelovar at 13:20 now passes through Klokočevac, Žabjak, Rovišće, Hrsovo, Cirkvena, and Sveti Ivan Žabno, then via Vrbovec and Dugo Selo arrives at Zagreb's Main Station at 14:48, making the journey one hour and 28 minutes.

Bus Instead of Train on Part of the Route

Additional complications await passengers on the 04:47 and 08:52 departures. On the section between Sveti Ivan Žabno and Gradec, a bus operates instead of a train, and due to the transfer, the journey takes an hour and a half or more, significantly longer than the usual travel time.

However, not all departures are affected by this arrangement. The shortest travel time remains on the train that leaves Bjelovar at 05:54 and arrives in Zagreb at 07:13, i.e., in one hour and 19 minutes, without transfers. A one-way ticket costs 5.71 euros.

Normalization Possibly as Early as Tomorrow

According to unofficial information, the Sveti Ivan Žabno-Gradec section could be reopened to traffic as early as Tuesday. Passengers are nonetheless advised to check the current schedule on the official HŽ Passenger Transport website before departure, as repair and rehabilitation works could bring additional deviations from the published timetable.
